Welcome to LifeWise Kitchen! We’ve teamed up with Bastyr University, Guckenheimer, and Northwest chefs and nutritionists to provide you with healthy and delicious recipes all year long. Check out our latest post — a healthy, chocolate-y treat from our friends at Guckenheimer — in the LifeWise Kitchen series below.

Go ahead. Reach for that bag of chocolate chips. We’re giving you the okay.

Why?

Because not only do these Fruit and Nut No-Bake Chocolate Bites have fewer calories than your usual batch of brownies, but these fudge-y treats are also packed with heart-healthy pecans. And on National Wear Red Day — a day devoted to raising awareness for the one in three women who die of heart disease annually — a little bit of heart-healthy snacking is the least you can do.

This National Wear Red Day (February 6), follow the delicious recipe below, add some red to your plate with some sliced strawberries and help the American Heart Association support the prevention of heart disease.
